Sudan’s Al Hilal shall receive Mali’s Djoliba AC at 15H: 00 GMT for the first leg match of the first semifinal of the 2011/2012 CAF Cup.

Both clubs met for the last time in 2010 during the Group stage in which Al Hilal won the first leg 2-1 and Djoliba overturned the tides beating the Sudanese 2-0 in the second leg.

In the just ended group stage, Al Hilal finished second in Group A where another Sudanese club, Al Merreikh, grabbed the lead. On their part, Djoliba reigned supreme in Group B seconded by Congo’s AC Leopards who shall take on Al Merreikh Sunday in the other semi final.

interview

Sudanese club side Al-Hilal hosts Djoliba of Mali in the first leg of the Orange CAF Confederation Cup semi-final this weekend and Hilal's coach French-born Diego Garzitto told Cafonline.com that he would like to take a healthy lead into the return fixture in Bamako

It is semis now does that change your approach to games at this stage ?

Playing in this stage is different from playing in the group stage because we will play only two matches in this stage. We are banking on winning our first match in Omdurman so that our chances are greater before the return match in Bamako. The pace of our play should therefore be faster at this stage.

What kind of match do you expect between the two clubs in Omdurman?

It will be a difficult match. We should be patient and more focused from beginning to end. We should create a large number of scoring opportunities. We want our fans to support us during the difficult times. We have prepared well and told the players on how to approach this match pointing out weaknesses and and strengths of Djoliba.

You previously stated that you would rather face Djoliba than Leopards of Congo. What is your assessment of Djoliba?

They have excellent players but they are not invincible. Like us, they will play this match without having lost any of their domestic League matches, and like us, they have lost one match in the group stage.

Where will your motivation come from?

We want to reach the final. The players know that reaching the final is a great opportunity that will not be repeated often. They know what is required of them and what we want from this stage on.

What are Al-Hilal's chances of reaching the final?

We have a fast style of play and excellent players. We only need more forceful performance to become a great team.

Are all your players injury free and available to play this weekend?

We will play with the same lineup that played the recent premier league match against Al-Hilal Port Sudan. The Zimbabwean Edward Sadomba, the Nigerian Yousef Mohammed and Abdulatif Boya will be back with us.
