MUNICH, GERMANY – Last year’s beaten finalists Bayern Munich open their Champions League campaign when they host Valencia at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday evening. The hosts suffered heartache on their own turf in May as Chelsea produced an epic comeback to snatch the trophy from the German outfit after a penalty shoot-out and this squad will start on the road to redemption with what looks set to be a mouth-watering encounter against Valencia.
Bayern Munich have reached the Champions League final twice in the last three seasons and they have been installed as the 9/20 favourites with BetVictor to get their new campaign off to the perfect start. Valencia have not won in the last six away games in the Champions League and are friendless in the betting currently priced up at 15/2 with bet365  while a draw is a 4/1 chance with Panbet.

Bayern Munich have enjoyed a brilliant start to their domestic league campaign and kept building momentum with a convincing 3-1 victory over Mainz at the weekend. Coach Jupp Heynckes appears to be spoilt for choice as has a number of very strong options at his disposal. Bayern Munich were busy in the summer transfer window and captures the signatures of eight players including Javi Martinez, Mario Mandzukic and Claudio Pizarro who will all want to make their mark in Europe’s elite club competition in front of their new supporters this evening.

Valencia will be without midfielder Fernando Gago after he has still not fully recovered from a head injury sustained on duty with Argentina. The Spanish side have a fairly poor record in Germany winning only one and drawing two out of their 11 European encounters and they will be up against it this evening against a side packed full of quality. Valencia have enjoyed a mixed bag in La Liga this season and injuries to key players has seen them lack the cutting edge required. They picked up their first win last weekend but a draw at Real Madrid on the opening day of the season and a 1-0 defeat at the Nou Camp against Barcelona showed that this side has potential to compete with Europe’s elite.

Bayern have been scoring goals freely in the Bundasliga in recent weeks and come into this game off the back of three wins in which they have scored 12 goals and there is no reason why this decent spell in front of goal should come to an end tonight. Over 2.5 goals has been supported in the Over/Under betting and is currently on offer at 7/10 with Panbet while under the same 2.5 goal margin is a standout 13/10 with BetVictor. For any punters who predict that this game could provide a goal fest they should take the 8/5 at betinternet on over 3.5 goals in this game.

Bayern Munich/Bayern Munich is available at 56/5 with totesport in the popular Half-time/Full-time betting while a Draw/Bayern Munich double result is a standout 18/5 with BetVictor. A draw at both the interval and at the end of 90 minutes can be backed at 7/1 with the same firm while Draw/Valencia is a 16/1 shot with bet365.

The most favoured scoreline for this game is a two-nil win for the hosts which is quoted at 7/1 with Ladbrokes while victory for Bayern by a single goal to nil is 15/2 at Blue Square. Bayern and Valencia have met three times in the Champions league and all these encounters have ended with in a 1-1 scoreline and punters who predict a 1-1 score draw again can back this at 8/1 with BetVictor. Valencia are chalked up at a massive 25/1 at Betfred to win by either a 2-1 or 1-0 scoreline

Bayern boast a very impressive strike force and the in-form Mario Mandzukic looks set to lead the line and he has been installed as the 4/1 favourite with Stan James in the First Goalscorer betting. The Croatian international joined from VfL Wolfsburg in the summer and has made an instant impact at the Allianz scoring three goals in three domestic appearances to date. Another summer recruit Claudio Pizarro features prominently in this market and can be backed at 5/1 with sportingbet to score on his Champions League debut for Bayern. Thomas Muller looks decent value at 15/2 with bet365 to break the deadlock while Arjen Robben and Frank Ribery will always pose a huge threat in front of goal and they can be backed at 8/1 with Coral. Valencia’s chief attacking threat comes from Roberto Soldado, an 8/1 shot with Skybet and the Spanish international is full of confidence after he netted two league goals in the opening weeks of the season.

This match kicks off at 19:45 BST on Wednesday 19th September and all the action is broadcast live on Sky Sports interactive.
